For many visitors Lanzarote represents either the archetypal sun, sea and sangria destination or a warm environment for sportspeople to boost their fitness over the winter months. I have been to the island on numerous occasions and the thing that captivates me most are the areas in between traditional tourist spots; the sparsely populated and barren landscape and the small communities that dot the interior.
